Van Sandwich is a concept sandwich shop located in the Jumeriah Centre. They offer a variety of shwarma’s, sandwiches, grills and numerous variations of manakeesh. Or in other words, it is a joint that offers sandwiches with an Arabic flavor in it. Unlike the cliché sandwich shops, the outlet has the ambiance and fit out done well. As the name of the outlet is ‘Vans’ the interior fit-out and walls have the traces and cutouts of a food truck. To complement this and to add on to the ambiance is the wooden bench for seating. It is an apt feel for a sandwich shop. However my suggestion would be the warm lighting instead of the cool blue white bulbs. The outlet also offers plenty of outdoor seating as well.
With the necessary ambiance and the welcome of friendly staff, I flipped through the menu. I was really surprised by the pricing of the items. The normal norm is that if an outlet has a fancy or good looking appearance, it is bound that the pricing of the items would be hefty. However, as mentioned I was really surprised by the super pocket friendly prices for all items. The most expensive item I could find in the menu was the grills which were priced around the range of AED 35-45. |
Having being impressed by the pricing aspects, I ordered a Chicken meal from the shawarma section and Chicken Chilli Van from the sandwich section.
The Chicken meal consisted of 2 Saj Shawarma served along with fries, garlic sauce and pickles. As it was a meal it also included the choice of a bottled soft drink. The Saj Shawarma was well toasted. The sandwich was made like any other typical shawarma , of well cooked chicken pieces and a touch of tahini and garlic paste as condiments for the sandwich. This combo was priced at AED 28.

The Chicken Chili Van was a normal sandwich priced at AED 20. The sandwich was made from homemade bread, stuffed with tender chicken breast and fresh lettuce. The VAN’s spicy sauce added a unique flavoring the chicken breast with mild spiciness.
Van Sandwich could be an option for a quick bite stop.
