Recently there has been an immense transformation in the overall cooking techniques. With the presence of these modern techniques, it opens a whole new dimension of food preparation; which would mesmerize and surprise many. One such technique is the Molecular Gastronomy; no doubt it has been around for a while, however the use of this method has quickly spread across our market and thereby, making it an upward trend.
Many quotes and people say that elements in the trend are something that constantly changes and no trend will be on the high curve for long. This is absolutely true as consumers are always in the race to find something new and different. With the rise in events which concentrates on street food and quick bites such as truckers and beach canteen; the high curve trend has been taken over by street food. It may sound basic, but at times basics with a twist could be more challenging for both the maker and the consumer. |
This is exactly what Gulabo has to offer. The young joint specialises in the concept of Pakistani street food and quick bites. The joint turns one year old this month and is truly a #HiddenGem for foodies.
The outlet is located in Qusais. They offer limited indoor space and therefore should be considered only if your willing to dine outdoors. If not, it could be considered as a quick takeaway option. They also have the option of online ordering and toll free number thereby increasing the convenience of ordering at your finger tip free of charge.
The manager also told me that they take orders through WhatsApp which to me is maximum utilisation of social media channels. Being a street food joint, the menu is priced at an average rate of AED15-20.
The menu is divided to bun kababs, parata rolls, and barbecue platter. As one of my food enthusiastic mate tagged along with me, it increased my confidence to try a small portion from each section.

From the bun kabab section we tried the Double Chicken (AED 14) and the Double Original with egg (AED 11). Both the sandwich buns were golden toasted and retained the soft nature on the outside along with the crispness in each bite. The chicken patty was well mixed and prepared with onions and garlic. Thereby, giving it prominent flavours of garlic and spices. I would consider it as an ordinary sandwich.
The Double Original sandwich was a preparation of dal patty along with egg. This was something new to my taste and I had never come across such a combination in a sandwich. I thoroughly enjoyed this more than the double chicken. Both the sandwiches were served with mint chutney.

There was a small section in the menu which read specials. Curious to know their specialty I tried the Chicken Biriyani and had huge expectations to know what kind of twist they would come up with. However, this ended up being an average biryani. The chicken pieces were tender and flavorful, although the big chunks of potato in the biryani turned out to be a disappointment and turned against my taste. It was priced at AED 15 and is an absolute price saver.
The following part, is all about the favourites from Gulabo. #GulaboHits
From the parata roll section I ordered the Chicken Bihari. This is something that I'd highly recommend. The parata was fresh with tender spicy chicken tucked in. The roll had a unique curry flavour of its own and made every bite feel special. I'd say it was a total worth pointer for AED 16

From the grill section we ordered the Chicken Tikka (AED 12) and the Beef Seekh Kabab (AED 14) . Both the platters were absolutely amazing both economically and flavour wise. The quantity served in each platter was phenomenal and would easily feed 2. The meat was tender and had the right amount of char taste that is required for a barbecue.
After all the #StreetFoodFeasting we didn't have any space for desserts. Or the right term for this would simply be over eating. We were stuffed to our faces and missed out the most awaited falooda. As Gulabo comes under the same group as Billo ice cream I was certain that the desserts would be up to the mark. I hope to visit them soon just to taste the falooda.
