The aged American diner has been all around the world for nearly 40 years and I am sure by now everyone is well aware of the famous brand Tony Roma. The brand is named under their founder who was the main driving force for the casual diner to be born. Originally the brand only offered steaks and burgers when they first opened, but over the years the menu has diversified with new add on’s like pasta, chicken, sandwiches, appetizers, vegetarian options deserts, cocktail list, seafood and the famous ribs. Tony Roma Ribs has a prestigious stand and flavor. It is usually served with their signature BBQ Sauce. The famous ribs were a creation of Chef David Smith. During the early days of the brand, he happened to grill baby back ribs and serve them with Tony Roma's BBQ sauce. With no time to breath, the dish was readily welcomed by the public.
The brand also offers numerous entrees and this is manufactured and distributed by Rupari Food Services. They also distribute prepackaged frozen meals and the signature sauces. I visited the newly opened outlet that is located in Ibn Battuta Mall’s China Court. The outlet has standard fit like any other branch of this brand. The outlet had the standard colors of black, red and yellow. To throw in an element of an American diner, Cow boy hats were used as an element in the fit. Despite being the standard fit with no element of surprise, the outlet surely had a relaxing and cozy atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. As a start to my weekend fooding exploration I visited the outlet along with my parents. I noticed just like us, a lot of others also chose to dine in at Tony Romas. The outlet was quite occupied spreading the weekend vibe. I must say, the staffs were very friendly, organized and attentive. They ensured 100% homely feel to all their customers. To start with, we were served crunchy homemade nachos with salsa sauce |
To start with, from the appetizers section we ordered a Kickin’ Shrimp platter and Chicken Quesadilla. The Kickin’ shrimp (AED 39) is a signature seafood appetizer of the brand. It iss a preparation of deep fried shrimp tossed in rich spicy cream flavored sauce. The velvety shrimps were served on shredded iceberg lettuce topped with sesame seeds #HighlyRecommended.
The Chicken Quesadilla (AED 32), was authentically prepared with Mexican recipes.. The freshly crafted flour tortillas were stuffed with flavorful grilled chicken, melted Italian cheese and pico de gallo. Pico de gallo was made from chopped onions, tomatoes, coiander and herbs with a sour element like lime juice and sour cream. The aroma of cheese was very tempting however, the sour cream taste failed to impress me in the quesadilla.
For the main course, I ordered for the newest burger on the menu. The Memphis burger (denoted with a ‘N’ in the menu) was priced AED52. It was a succulent beef patty loaded with cheddar, red onion, pickles and drizzled with black pepper sauce. The burger was served with fresh coleslaw, pickles and fresh fries on the sides.
My parents ordered the signature Roasted Garlic & Rosemary Chicken and as a second dish we ordered the South Miami fried shrimp. The Roasted Garlic & Rosemary chicken was a let down as the chicken breasts were not grilled up to perfection. We felt we made a wrong decision with this dish, as the chicken pieces got very dry and chewy over time. The chicken was smothered in Tony Roma’s roasted garlic & rosemary bbq sauce and sprinkled with grated Romano cheese. The dish is normally served with rice and mixed vegetables but we requested to replace rice with creamy alfredo fettuccine pasta.
The South Miami Fried Shrimp (AED 69) was deep-fried breaded shrimps served on a bed of crunchy French fries. The shrimps were delicious with crusted munch in every bite. It was served with coleslaw and tartar sauce on the side.
For desserts, we tried a duo platter of apple crust and fudge brownie. My favorite from the two was the gooey and warm fudge brownie that was toped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and generous amount of chocolate sauce drizzled over the platter. As a crunchy element, oreo cookies were also crushed #DivineChocolateBeauty
To end the meal, I ordered for a slushy Mint & Fruit Dream mojito. It was a blend of fresh orange juice with strawberry syrup and carbonated water. The fruity and tangy flavors were perfect to sum up the meal #RefreshingEnd
