The importance and priority for Michelin Star Chef diners is generally high when it comes to Western and European cultures. Due to this, the number of such diners is more in those areas. However, the same concept is of less importance when it comes to the Asian side, especially in India, which is the main reason for a limited number of such options.
But lately, the joints owned by popular Asian Michelin chef’s in the local market have been able to attract a huge number and gain the recognition they intend. One such well known chef and brand among the Indians would be the 'Sanjeev Kapoor' line of restaurants and eateries. The honorable chef is the most celebrated and well-known face for Indian Cuisine. His brand just does not confine to eateries but rather a conglomerate of cookbooks, kitchen appliances, spices, pickles and other masala's. He has been the key faces for the famous Indian cookery show Khana Khazana for years and due to this, recently he has launched a full time food channel which is known by the name Food Food. The latest addition to his restaurant line is the brand 'Yellow Chili'. The line concentrates more on casual dining. The goal set by the chef for this brand is to be a choice that provides high quality food at affordable prices along with a family dining experience. It is skewed more towards the north style preparation and tries to promote the traditional items such as 'Dhokla' and many more. According to the chef's initial plan, he had proposed for 3 outlets of 'The Yellow Chilli' in Dubai, and today all 3 are fully operational. The outlets are located in JLT, New Dragon Mart and the latest outlet, which is located in Burjuman. Automatically I chose to dine in the latest outlet. |
The fully revamped Burjuman is definitely a home for many new diners. Along with the newbies sits Yellow Chilli by Sanjeev Kapoor. The brand might be new but definitely holds with it a strong history of past experiences. The menu is priced at an affordable range of AED 75-150 for two. Being a casual diner, the fit out is simple with common area for all. The walls are filled with numerous painting and prints of Indian monuments and culture. The color scheme is also very casual with dark toned tables with green upholstered chairs and warm lighting The outlet also offers outdoor seating in Burjuman’s walkway facing the main road.
I visited the outlet with my parents on a weekday for dinner. The outlet seemed quite occupied and with our expectations set high, we requested for a table for 3. Within 2-3 minutes of waiting, we were guided to our table. The managers and staff ensured they gave the best service and hospitality. The menu is so tempting with colorful pictures and yummy looking dishes.
Like any other Indian restaurant, even Yellow Chilli follows the tradition of pappad, chutneys and pickle at first . For starters we decided to try the Frontier Mix Grill priced Aed 99. This platter, just like the name was a mix of juicy chicken, meat and seafood grills.

For chicken there was tender spicy Murgh Angar Bedgi (tikka), and mild flavored Chandi ki Kaliyan with cheesy lemon and cream marination. For mutton, there was Pudina Seekh kebab. The meat preparation had spicy and minty flavour. The tender meat was served on skewers and was grilled to perfection. For seafood, there was Kali Mirch Methi fish Tikka and Tandoori Basil Prawn. The long titled fish simply came with pepper-y flavors, with fenugreek leaves and crackling spinach. The prawns came with tantalizing aroma of basil and delicious seasoning of tangy lemon and spices. Every element of this mouthwatering platter was delicious with strong flavors of the ingredients.
My personal favorite from the Frontier Mix Grill was Murgh Angar Bedgi, Chandi ki Kaliyan and Tandoori Basil prawns ❤️❤️

For drinks, we asked the waiter to bring in any 3 special mojitos and shakes from Yellow Chilli. So the spread was Peru Pyala #MyFavorite, Strawberry Mojito #GoodTry and Santratantra.
The Peru Pyala was a drink made from guava juice blended with lemon and mint. It was served in a chili rimmed glass. This amazing sweet n’ spicy drink was priced AED 18. The Strawberry mojito (AED 18) was a refreshing mix of fresh strawberry, sweetener, mint leaves and carbonated soda. The Santratantra (AED 18) was not a pick of my taste, but my dad surely enjoyed the drink. It was orange juice blended with fennel seeds and ginger.

The feast continued with Chicken tikka biryani, Lazeez Murgh Tikka masala, Nalli Rogan Josh, and assorted breads. The chicken tikka biryani priced Aed 45, was worth every penny! The feast just got better with the entry of the biryani. It was aromatic with relishing flavors of soft chicken tikka, saffron, herbs and spices.
To add on, the signature gravies; Lazeez Murgh tikka masala and Nalli Rogan Josh was served. The Lazeez Murgh tikka masala was thick gravy with succulent chicken pieces. It went best with butter naan and cheese kulcha. Cheese Kulcha was a new add on to my knowledge. It was the usual flat bread with oozing cheese filling. Each bread priced Aed 9 was filling.
The Nalli Rogan Josh priced Aed 49, was a traditional mutton shanks prepared with Kashmirian flavors. The gravy was rich and creamy with spices.. The gravy is perfect to go with Peshawari naan (Aed 9). Another new add on to my knowledge, this was perfectly crafted flatbread topped with fennel seeds, crushed pistachio and black sesame seeds
And lastly, the Desserts!! Being a die heart fan of Chef Sanjeev Kapoor’s Gulab Jamun, I decided to go for the Gulab E Gulkhand The server also suggested the Zauki Sahi. Both the desserts were priced Aed 18 each. The Gulab E Gulkand, as always did not fail to #impress me instead it was served with a #unique #twist. The giant Jamun was filled with warm Gulkand (rose petal jam). This was surely the ultimate pick!
The Zauki Sahi, was a fusion-ised form of the traditional Shahi Tukda. The preparation was served in a glass with mini gulab jamun, rabdi (sweetened condensed milk) and crispy bread.

After a good meal, as a good solution to digestion we requested the server for some black tea. Even though, Yellow Chilli offers just masala chai on their menu, upon request they served black tea with lime and mint.
