Shahi Paratha Roll: On my quest to try typical Desi food, I visited Shahi Paratha Roll at the Greece cluster in International City. The outlet is located in a quite corner of the cluster offering both indoor and outdoor seating. One drawback of the outlet is the lack of parking availability. But the management ensures that the customers avial parking within the vicinity. I went for dinner along with my family on a weekday evening and I must say, Shahi Paratha Roll guarantees superior quality food and service.
Shahi Paratha Roll offers a simple and affordable menu. After my interaction with the owner, I understood that their main focus is to serve 100% quality food to the customers with perfect mix of ingredients. Or in other words to master the simple menu of theirs. We started our meal with the Chatpata Thela section; we tried Dahi Bhalla and Chana Papri chat. Each of these were an absolute treat to the tummy with the relishing flavors of spice and tanginess. The Dahi bhalla was a deep fried bhallas/vadas cooked with daal and spices. It was dipped in thick and creamy yogurt. For the Chana Papri chat; diced and spiced potato chunks along with chickpeas were smothered in mixed spices and yoghurt with a mix of tangy tamarind chutney and spicy green chutney. It was served with roasted crunchy pappad as topping. Following, for appetizers, we tried the Buffalo wings and Honey soy wings. The Buffalo wings was not a very impressive choice. It was the usual deep-fried chicken wings coated with buffalo sauce and served with special Shahi ranch dressing. My personal favorite, the Honey soy wing was deep fried chicken wings with a delicate flavor of honey, soy sauce and ginger garlic and topped with sesame seeds. For Drinks, we placed order for Sweet Lassi and Lemon Mint Soda. The sweet lassi is truly the highlight of the meal. It’s purely a delight of sweetened, thick and creamy whipped yogurt. The Lemon mint soda is the relishing fizzy drink with a flavor of salt lemonade with mint and soda. For the main course, we ordered Shahi Mix Grill, New York Style Chicken and rice, and Chicken tikka. The mix grill platter and the chicken tikka were perfectly cooked platters with the right consistency of spices and masala. The mix grill platter was an assortment of tikkas, boti, and kabab with french fries, rice and parathas for the sides. A selection of chutneys (condiments) were also available with the platter. The New York style chicken and rice was a New York’s favorite kind of fusion dish with grilled vegetables topped with Shahi special white sauce. Another personal favorites are the Bun Kabab and Katie Rolls. The Katie rolls were served along with the Shahi Mix Grill. For bun kababs we ordered Kache Gosht ke bun kabab and Shami bun kabab. The bun kababs were not as greasy and deep fried unlike the usual bun kababs. For deserts, we ordered the special Shahi Kheer in clay pot. Each clay pot was an authentic mitayi (dessert). It was cooked with rice and full cream dairy thickened to the right consistency. Shahi Kheer was served with green pistachios for the topping. The main purpose of serving in clay pots/matka’s is to extract the moisture consistency from the kheer and retain the thickness. Overall, a must try eatery. Absolutely amazing food and hospitality! A special mention to the Shahi paratha, very soft and light for the tummy. |
