Sangam Restaurant is located in the busy food streets of Oud Metha. The outlet prior to Sangam was Moti Mahal. They were well known for the authentic preparation of North Indian non veg dishes. The time they changed the board I was quite upset, because it was favorite spot for the family for casual dinners. Recently when I was in the area to get some South Indian dishes and thali, I decided to try them out.
The restaurant board was very eye catchy. The moment I entered the outlet, it was a warm welcome as it was the same staff from Moti Mahal, At that moment I was quite sure that the food would live up to my expectations. The outlet fit out remains the same with a bit more warm lit lights adding a premium feel and ambiance. The outlet also offers limited outdoor seating as well. As I visited the outlet for dinner, the quite was filled but not packed. After a quick browse through the menu, I realized that the pricing was much low compared to the other restaurant serving the same items. As I was with my food buddy, none other than my mom, we decided to get a mini tiffin, ghee masala dosa, chilli paratha and a piece of vada for each of us. |
The mini tiffin was priced at AED 13, and like any other tiffins, they offered numerous South Indian dishes. It included a piece of vada, pongal, 1 piece of sweet idli, mini masala dosa and rava kesari as a dessert. The dishes were served with sambar along with the traditional 3 chutneys namely, mint, coconut, kara chutney. The vada plate served two pieces of fresh cooked vada. Every bit was nice and crisp and this too was served with sambar and chutneys. This was priced at AED 8.
The Ghee Masala Dosa was priced at AED 11.50. This was just the normal, rich in ghee flavor and with minimal bhaji as the filing. However the minimal potato, was prepared well with the right mash and spices as it felt light and smooth.
To try we also ordered a chilli paratha and shared. It is traditionally called as 'Kothu Poratha' and was priced at AED 10. Kothu which means minced is a popular Tamilian delicacy with minced pieces of paratha mixed with other vegetable and spices. As the name suggests, it was spicy and as usual it was served with curd to ease the spiciness
As you can see the prices mentioned above are super economical with high class ambiance.
