Maharaj Bhog is the true home for premium vegetarian thali. The brand offers an extravagant Thali experience by serving authentic Rajastani, Maharashtrian and Gujarti dishes. When I mean authentic, it is 100% percent rich in flavors and recipes and has been handed down over generations. As mentioned in my previous blog about them, the brand highly holds the value of “Atithi Devo Bhava” which simply means “The guests are served equivalent to God”. To follow this, they ensure that the customer service is at high standards. A special mention to all the staff who are well trained and friendly when serving guests.
The brand has been able to attain its presence in India, Dubai and Houston. My visit to the branch in Al Karama was simply mind blowing. It is also considered that the karama branch is a vital source of revenue stream. According to their statistics the brand offers around 900 variations of dishes each month. With a fully satisfied mind about the brand, I visited their new outlet in Discovery Gardens. The outlet was a bit sleeker version of the Karama outlet and had a similar fit out with classic ebony coloured wood and beige upholstered furniture. All the tables were well laid with shining steel utensils and cutlery. Just as in the name, “Maharaja”, every customer is treated and served like a royal king when at Maharaja Bhog with a massive thali spread to every customer. The Maharaja Bhog concept menu priced Aed 35 consists of about 18 items that is changed every day with new dishes, sides and drinks. My Maharaja style feast took place on a Monday with a new set of menu. My guest and I were first welcomed with some Tang Mango juice followed by some authentic lassi aka, buttermilk. The thick lassi was a blend of ingredients that was good for digestion before beginning the feast. |
For Farsan (that is snacks), we were served cute little mini Kathol samosa and Moong Daal Panoli. The Kathol samosa was my #Favorite from the Farsan category. It was a typical Gujarati preparation of mashed mixed vegetables sautéed in flavorful spices. It was stuffed in mini homemade samosa pastry and deep-fried with kneaded crust.
Panoli is common snack in Northern regions of India as a low calorie healthy snack. To keep the health factor as a prime concern, panoli is steamed and served with a spicy or mild spicy tampering. It was definitely very light to the tummy with airy and fluffy texture.
As a #Special dish of the day, we were served Dal Dhokli. It is a signature dish from Gujarat’s households. The preparation was a perfect combination of spiced whole-wheat flour dhoklis simmered in Gujarati dal served warm.
Gradually, one after the other each bowl on the thali was getting filled with aromatic curries, chutneys and raita. It was a remarkable scene to see the coordination between staffs to fill up thalis for each guest with utmost care and concern.
For Curries, we were served Paneer (cottage) Veg Achari, Baigan (eggplant) Bharta, Aloo (potato) Kanda Rasawala, and Matki Masala. The daal section consisted of Rajasthani Dal, Gujarati Dal, Rajasthani Kadhi and Gujarati Kadhi. Each dish was loaded with the typical flavors and spices from each state. #BustlingFlavors
Freshly prepared hot flatbreads/rotis were served along with the curries. There were three kinds of outstanding breads served, i.e., Fulka roti, Dudhi Thepla, and Nachni Rotla. They were extremely soft, and filling especially with all the desi ghee used for glazing. There was also an option of Jaggery topping for the roti’s just like how it’s served in traditional households.
To add on, there was an option of either Steam Rice or Khichdi to go well with the curries.
At last, the #Lavish #Unlimited thali ended with some great dessert options. There was Shrikhand and Puran Poli.
Shrikhand is one of the most #Popular desserts among the Gujaratis and Maharatrians. It is a fresh preparation of strained yogurt with cardamom, saffron and sugar. It was my #Favorite among the desserts because of the soothing temperature and the perfect sweetness.
The Puran Poli is a #Popular dessert between several Northern and Southern states of India. It is a sweetened flatbread prepared from chana dal, plain flour, jaggery, cardamom powder, ghee and water. I felt this was extremely sweet for my taste.
Finally to sum up, Maharaja Bhog is highly recommended if you’re looking for an affordable Indian joint with unlimited serving, friendly hospitality and ambiance. Also, it is a perfect spot to showcase Indian hospitality among other nationalities.
Maharaja Bhog is currently having an offer of dine in for just Aed 25 on Mondays #HurryUp #HappyMondays.
