Recently, I was on my routine stroll in search for #PocketFriendly diners. This routine is done quite often to keep myself updated with not just the ‘easy on pocket’ diners but also the ones with the cinch element. On such a visit to an Asian joint next to El Greco, I had noted the outlet and decided to make it my next try under this category.
El Greco which is located next to Mercato Mall on Beach road is a Concept Greek street food diner which serves healthy options prepared from fresh and handpicked ingredients. The name El Greco may ring bells for many, as he is one of the most well-known painter, sculptor and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. Just like his versatile style and contribution to the culture, El Greco Arabia aims in rejuvenating the Greek Street Food which is more or less similar to the traditional Middle Eastern Shawarma dishes which is definitely loved by all. The outlet offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Even though the outlet is small sized, the overall layout makes the outlet nice and spacious. The fit has more of a contemporary Greek styled approach with green walls and indoor plants. 'The open plan kitchen concept' of the brand allows the customer to participate in the preparation. It also provides a leverage for customisation of the preferred sauces and ingredients for the sandwich. However one of the major drawbacks I felt was that the staff barely showed any interest in approaching the customers and was not at all proactive in their service. El Greco servers a range of sandwiches that includes pita, club platter and burgers. Well it is not just limited to sandwiches but they also offer Grill platters, dips, salads and numerous 'on the side' condiments to compliment and complete the meal. The menu consists of items averagely priced between Aed 12 to 60. |
Me and my buddy stopped by to give it a try after a long day. We placed an order for a Gyros Pita Sandwich Platter and a Greco Club Platter. Both the sandwiches were served in unique wooden crates. The Gyros sandwich was a chicken wrap prepared in pita bread with signature Gyros chicken along with onions, tomatoes, potato chips and homemade sauces. This tasted and looked more like the usual Arabic style shawrama. Just the sandwich was priced AED 17, and as a meal it was priced at AED 31, with a drink and French fries.
Although it was a very messy sandwich with juicy filling, my favorite from the two was the Greco Club Platter. The sandwich was prepared with chicken gyro, tomato, lettuce, and double cheese stuffed in two slices of thick pita bread. It was served on a bed of crunchy French fries and ketchup sachets on the side. The platter was priced AED 39. The Greco Club Platter is #Highly Recommended for dine in, and a suggestion would be to request the sandwich to be cut into either 2 or 4 portions. To sum up, El Greco is a good try if you are stuck around Beach Road for an economical meal.
