As the Ramadan hospitality affairs continued, I was invited for my department’s Iftar gathering at Al Fanous Dubai Ballroom in JW Marquis. I must say, I was overwhelmed with the grand set up of the ballroom starting from the red carpet walkway to the beautifully organized ballroom with elegant crapes of white, blue and pink light effects in the hall. There were turquoise and bronze ornamented Turkish lanterns hanging down from the ceiling and around the ballroom.
The extensive set up continued to the dinner tables with elegant white interiors, well adorned with candles lit, dates and dry fruits in a crystal jar to remark the breaking of the fasts. The collaboration of Al Fanous café and restaurant with Dubai Ballroom was a splendid work. The lavish buffet spread was catered in a hall attached to Dubai Ballroom; priced AED 195/per head. It comprised of 5-course meal starting from drinks and beverages, followed by soups, salads and appetizers, then main course and lastly, yummy dessert treats. The extensive buffet ranged from Middle Eastern, Italian, Indian, and Asian cuisines. The meals started off with the traditional refreshments like the Jallab, Tamar Hindi, Laban, and Kamarudin. |
The salad array had an option of fresh veggies, and condiments to customize your own salad along with the usual hot and cold mezzes. For the cold mezze they served moutabbel, hummus, muhammara, tabouleh and labneh. For the Appetizers, there was an option of traditional Arabic snacks like kibbeh, fatayers, cheese rolls, sambousa and much more…...
The buffet offered an option of hot mushroom soup and lentil soup. For the Middle Eastern main course spread, they served the traditional Lamb Ouzi, along with authentic flavored Dawood Basha, Lamb Harris, Grilled fish and meat with different marination.
For the other cuisines, there was a sushi station and dim sum counter. For sushi, a variety of unique seafood variations were available with suitable condiments. In the Dimsum counter, they served Chicken and Vegetable Gyoza and Prawn Hakao.
There was also an English section offering pancakes and soups. As Indian delicacies, the spread offered Vermacilli steamed rice, butter chicken, daal makhani and flat breads.
For Italian, there was Alfredo pasta and salmon with lemon and herb marination.

The dessert section was a marvelous spread with unlimited yummy options to pick from. There was also live-cooking kunafa station, and the unusual Turkish ice cream stands at Iftar gatherings. The International dessert spread had mouthwatering Ras Malai,Gajar (Carrot) ka Halwa, Umm Ali, Tarts, cheesecakes, lolly pops, chocolate fudge cakes and much more…
